The Newburg track team took part in their Sectional at Belton High School on Saturday, May 13. Newburg had two Sectional Champions in the pole vault javelin, while sending a total of three athletes to the State Meet in Jefferson City on Friday and Saturday, May 19-20.

Newburg's two champions were both in field events. Jacob Russell won the pole vault by clearing 11 feet at the Sectional, beating Santa Fe's Tanner Begemann by three inches. Audrey Suschanke continued her phenomenal season in the javelin with a throw of 114' 4" to win the event. She beat Norborne's Hannah Mansur by just under a foot.

Trey Gaedke advanced in the javelin, as well. He had a throw of 130' 3", placing fourth in the event to take the finale spot. Russell was right behind him in fifth, just missing the cut for State with a throw of 121' 6". Gaedke also placed fourth in the 3,200m run with a school record time of 11:04.28, claiming the final spot in the State meet by .8 seconds. He also narrowly missed out in the 1,600m run, placing fifth with a time of 4:53.45.

Alyssa Dondlinger nearly joined the trio with a trip to State in the discus. The senior placed fifth in the event with a throw of 94' 9". She was a foot and seven inches away from the fourth place throw.

All of Newburg's event swill be on Saturday. Russell will pole vault starting at 9:30, Suschanke will throw javelin starting at 10:00, while Gaedke has a busy afternoon. The javelin kicks off at 2:00, but he has the 3,200m run in the 2:15 time slot.
