The GOP is moving quickly to make good on their campaign promises. These promises are not promises made to the good citizens of Missouri; these are the promises made to the corporate sponsors that financed the campaigns of our corrupt governor and Republican legislators. It’s a fact that the Governor and top GOP candidates received millions of dollars in campaign contributions from billionaires and their sham corporations, both here in the state and across the nation in exchange for legislation that strips away protections that took years for citizens to put in place. These protections were not put into place on a whim, but as a direct result of abuses and tragedies suffered by citizens at the hands of greedy businesses. Underpaid workers died or were severely injured, unscrupulous lenders foreclosed on poor homeowners, rip-off artists sold snake oil products and schemes, polluters contaminated our land and water and poisoned our kids, insurance companies that didn’t pay, warranties that didn’t warrant, cars with rolled back odometers, identity theft, the list of schemes is endless. Who was there to protect us? We were. We the people. That is why we have government, to promote the general welfare, to protect us from all attackers, both foreign and domestic. Domestic attackers aren’t armies, they are criminals. To protect ourselves, we passed laws to stop the crooks from harming us. Now the crooks are fighting back. They paid off the GOP, giving them millions to fund their campaigns of “alternative facts” and “fake news”, and hoodwink the good people with slogans like “job killing taxes” or “job killing regulations” and scare them with lies such as “steal your guns and kill your babies” and the good people fell for it. I submit to you that any politician that refers to any of these slogans is a crook. The GOP took the money; we know that. Now the devil gets his due. Right to work kills the unions, tort reform protects the abuser, consumer protection reform sets the rip-off artists free. All this is simply corruption. Pay to play. Was it legal? I’m afraid so. Corporations are people, remember? And money is speech. Legal yes, but is it right?   If you are skeptical, ask yourself this question; If these regulations are so harmful to business, how did they get their billions? It’s a simple matter of values. The Republican philosophy is less regulation and support for businesses while the Democratic philosophy is to protect the average citizen and support the worker. If you voted Republican, is this what you expected? If you voted Democrat, hang in there, we will survive; but stay hyper-alert because you are on your own.
