According to the Missouri Highway Patrol crash report, Funk was driving a 1997 Ford Econoline van east around 7:44 a.m. Jan. 5 when the accident occurred at the 174 mile marker of I-44, about 10 miles west of Rolla.

Two area men received minor injuries when the van they were traveling in lost control and crashed on a slippery I-44 Thursday morning.

Brian D. Funk, 22, of St. James and Derrick V. Drew, 28, of Newburg were both taken by ambulance to Phelps County Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Funk was traveling too fast for conditions, the report states, and lost control on the icy roadway. The van struck a concrete bridge rail. 

The report indicated Funk was not wearing a seatbelt but Drew was.
