Fort Leonard Wood will be hosting the 30th Annual Retiree Appreciation Days on Sept. 11 and 12.  The purpose of the annual celebration is to provide social and informational events for members of the retired military community who reside locally or who may be visiting the area.

Friday’s events will commence at 8 o’clock in the morning with a golf tournament at the Piney Valley Golf Course.  Other events of the day include an 11:30 a.m. focus group to be held at the John B. Mahaffey Museum Regimental Room; a tour of the installation which departs from Nutter Field House at 12:30 p.m.; and a Retirement Ceremony, honoring the Retiree of the Year, which begins at 3 p.m. at the Lincoln Hall Auditorium, Building 3201.

On the evening of Sept. 11, the annual Retiree Dinner will be held at the Pershing Community Center from 5:30 to 10 p.m.  This event is sponsored by the Fort Leonard Wood Retiree Council and promises to provide a great venue for guests to reminisce with friends and meet new members of the retired community.

Saturday, Sept. 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. retirees and spouses can enjoy a free breakfast sponsored by the American Legion, at the American Legion Hall, in St. Robert.  From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. a health and benefits fair will be held at Nutter Field House, and General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital personnel will be on hand to offer services and answer health-related questions.  Various civilian and military agencies and post activities will also be there to provide up-to-date information on the Army and changes in retirement benefits.  The event will conclude at 2 p.m. with a door prize giveaway.

Members of the retired military community may call 596-0947 for more information.
