Missouri University University of Science and Technology’s new Chancellor, Cheryl B. Schrader, shakes hands with Joe Miner after breaking ground for the university's geothermal energy project Tuesday. Once completed, the geothermal project will create energy for the entire campus, something Schrader says only a few universities throughout the country have done. It is expected to save the university $2.8 million in energy costs. The project is planned to be completed in 2014. During Tuesday's ceremony, Schrader flipped a switch to drill into the ground, rather than using a traditional golden shovel, as a salute to the school's heritage as a mining school.
