Voters in the St. James School District passed a $3.7 million bond issue for improvements to Lucy Wortham James Elementary School in Tuesday’s only election in Phelps County.
The bond issue includes enclosing the walkways, building a new cafeteria, creating one main entrance, fixing the roof and adding classroom space for the growing population of approximately 800 students.
Phelps County Clerk Carol Bennett gave unofficial election results (to be certified today) for eight precincts, including absentee ballots.
Results showed 1,316 tallies in favor, totaling 74 percent. Results concluded 456 tallies were against, totaling nearly 26 percent.
The bond issue needed a four-sevenths approval to pass.
Election results also showed 1,772 total ballots cast out of 5,728 registered voters, making the voter turnout 30.94 percent.
