Continuing the decade-long trend of increased enrollment, Missouri S&T has started off the new semester Monday with a total student enrollment of 6,182.
After graduating more than 600 in the fall, the first-day enrollment numbers are only 633 students below the fall semester enrollment of 6,815 and is 506 more students than last spring.
“We expect the spring enrollment to increase at the same rate as the fall figures,” Jay Goff, the vice provost and dean of enrollment management, said last week.
Goff, so far, appears to be correct, with first-day figures 9 percent higher than last year. The first-day headcount is only a preliminary figure, since it can change as the university continues to accept registrations until the third week of the semester.
In September, Chancelor John F. Carney III predicted a “melt away” in the semester’s enrollment, but was proven wrong, when, after starting with 6,614 students, another 200 students were in the final count. A press release from the university said another 100 students are expected to enroll in the next several weeks.
