This season’s Missouri University of Science and Technology Free Spring 2010 Film Festival will include a diverse mix of acclaimed films, including witty comedies, intense dramas, thrilling sci-fi, first-class animation and a controversial documentary.

“This semester’s film series is loaded with heavy-duty screenings, including ‘Hurt Locker,’ ‘Precious,’ and watch for ‘An Education,’” says Dr. James J. Bogan Jr., Curators’ Teaching Professor of art history and film at Missouri S&T. “Several musical events will accompany the films, including the S&T Jazz Band playing before ‘Some Like It Hot’ on April 6.”

The series opens with the charming romantic comedy “The Invention of Lying,” starring Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner, and concludes with the 1927 silent classic “Metropolis,” accompanied by live musicians.

Brad Rupert, S&T communications specialist and photography and film instructor, will run the program this semester as Bogan travels to Kansas City and Beijing, China, for research and re-education.

The films are free and open to the public. The movies will be shown at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays in Leach Theatre of S&T’s Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla, Mo., with the exception of “Some Like It Hot” on April 6, and “Capitalism: A Love Story” on April 13, which will be screened in Room 199 Toomey Hall on the Missouri S&T campus.
