Work on replacing the State Route 8 bridge in Phelps County over the Dry Fork Creek south of St. James will continue this week.
From Monday, April 27, through Friday, May 1, contractors working for the Missouri Department of Transportation, plan to begin pouring concrete for bridge columns as well as continue hauling fill material to the job site.
Robertson Contractors Inc., based in Poplar Bluff, the general contractor on the project, was awarded the work on a bid of $2,124,223.
There may be minimal traffic interruptions for concrete trucks entering and leaving the site. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall.
The new bridge, adjacent and to the west of the existing crossing, will 30 feet wide once completed, which will be 6 feet wider than the existing bridge.
Among the other area road work that will continue this week is along State Route 68 between Interstate 44 at St. James and U.S. Route 63 in Maries County.
This section of highway is being resurfaced and its shoulders will be widened. The contractor is planning to continue installing material for the shoulder widening portion of the project pending weather.
This will be a one-lane operation controlled with flaggers and a pilot car. Motorists should expect delays when traveling through this work zone. The project is scheduled for completion in October.
Other road work scheduled in the county will be culvert pipe replacements along State Route E between County Road 8300 and Route HH from Monday, April 27.
Additionally, road maintenance is scheduled along State Route K between U.S. Route 63 and U.S. Route J Monday, April 27, and Tuesday, April 28.
One lane will be open, and crews will flag traffic through these work areas.
