Bulldogs even record with big second period.
The Rolla Junior High School freshman football team evened its record at 1-1 by beating Springfield Kcikapoo 28-14 Monday.
After a scoreless first period, Rolla struck for three touchdowns in the second period to take a 22-0 halftime lead.
Two scores by the Bulldog defense got things started. Jacob Grooms intercepted a pass and returned it one yard for a TD. Caleb Turner ran in the two-point conversion. Rolla’s Ryan Smith then recovered a Kickapoo fumble and returned it for a TD. Josh Pritchett hit Davis Buhr with a two-point conversion pass to make it 16-0.
Buhr scored the third Rolla second-quarter touchdown on a 67-yard run. The conversion attempt failed.
Rolla made it 28-0 in the third period when Buhr broke off another 67-yard score. The conversion failed.
Kickapoo tallied two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make the final score.
Rolla is scheduled to host Springfield Parkview on Monday, Sept. 8 at 5:30 p.m. on Lions Memorial Field.
