After slow start, Bulldogs pound Sullivan, 10-0.
After a slow start the Rolla High School boys’ soccer team finished fast, blasting Sullivan 10-0 Tuesday in the first round of the Pacific Tournament.
After having last week’s game against Columbia Rock Bridge postponed by rain, Tuesday’s contest was the season opener for RHS.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to play Windsor at 6 p.m. today in the tournament semifinals. Windsor advanced by beating Union 4-1.
On Saturday the third-place game is set for 10:45 a.m. and the championship game for 12:30 p.m.
With just three minutes remaining in the first half Rolla held just a 1-0 lead.
However, RHS broke the game open to start the second half by scoring five goals in a five-minute stretch.
“We had a slow start in the first half,” said Rolla head coach Mike Howard. “I thought we kept the ball really well. Not bad for our first game of the season.
“(Today) will be a tough test for us against Windsor. It’s always a tough matchup for us.”
Junior Thomas MacCash had the hat trick, scoring three goals for the Bulldogs.
Also for Rolla senior Rico Vieiro and sophomore Stewart Meusch each had two goals while sophomore Tyler Calvert, sophomore Mike Jennings and senior Ben Hushaw each scored one.
Sophomore Earl Medrano, junior Lefatshe Lefatshe and Vieiro each had two assists while junior Austin Rabenau, MacCash and Hushaw had one.
Junior Carter Daniels got the shutout in goal for RHS.
