Powered by a two-run home run from sophomore Devin Fuhring, the St. James High School softball team improved its record to 3-2 by beating Vienna 9-3 in non-league play Tuesday at Nelson Hart Park.
Junior Abby Ray was the winning pitcher for the Lady Tigers, scattering nine hits and one walk while fanning six. Maddie Stricklan took the loss in the pitching circle for Vienna, now 1-2. Stricklan allowed 12 hits and five walks.
Fuhring had two hits including the homer for the Lady Tigers.
Senior Soane Snodgrass had three hits and two stolen bases while senior Cheyenne Wood had two hits for the Vienna Lady Eagles.
Vienna won the junior varsity game 18-8.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to host Belle on Friday, starting at 4:30 p.m. at Nelson Hart Park. Vienna is slated to play at Russellville next Tuesday.
Vienna 16, Richland 3
On Monday at Vienna, the host Lady Eagles whipped Richland 16-3 in five innings.
Stricklan the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and two walks in three innings, while junior Annie John threw two innings of hitless relief.
At the plate Stricklan had two doubles and an RBI while Megan Wieberg had a double, single and two RBI and Courtney Falter had a double, single and RBI.
Amarie Walters clubbed a three-run homer in the first inning for all of Richland’s scoring.
Iberia 9, Vienna 8
Vienna opened its season by falling 9-8 to defending Class 2 district champion and Frisco League favorite Iberia.
Taylour Schoene had a double, two singles and two stolen bases for Vienna while Sloane Snodgrass had two hits and two stolen bases; Stricklan had a hit and three RBI, and Wood had a hit and two RBI.
Stricklan took the loss for the Lady Eagles.
Jordan Lawson was the winning pitcher for the Iberia Lady Rangers while Faith Duncan paced the Iberia offense with two home runs.
Vienna won the jayvee game 13-1.
