  • Over a three-year period in Phelps County, there were six infant deaths from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) or accidental suffocation because of infants sleeping in an adult bed or couch with adults.
The Phelps County Child Advocacy Network (PCCAN) developed a subcommittee to look at how to prevent injuries and/or death to infants.
One of the ways the group helps spread their message is through the annual Healthy Baby and Beyond event.
This will mark the sixth consecutive year for the event. This year, it is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 12, from 2-6 p.m. at the Eugene Northern Community Hall, 400 W. Fourth St.
Parents and grandparents of children from birth to 5 years of age are invited to this free event.
There will be door prizes, workshops, booths and free car seat checks provided.
The event is cosponsored by PCCAN, March of Dimes, Mercy OB/GYN, Phelps County Regional Medical Center, SIDS Resources, Phelps/Maries County Health Department and Prevention Consultants of Missouri.
To register for the event or have a booth, call Rachael at 573-368-4755 or Lisa at 573-458-6030.
People can also register on Facebook at Show Me Positive Parenting.
