Recruitment drive also to be Thursday at RMS

Local Boy Scout units are invited once again to take part in the annual “Hooked On Scouting” fishing event next month.
But before then, a recruitment drive is scheduled to take place for those interested in joining the Scouts.
The recruitment event is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 28, from 6-8 p.m. at the Rolla Middle School cafeteria.
This is part of the of an effort by Cub Scout units within the River Trails District of the Ozark Trails Council who have begun recruitment of new members.
While the focus of the recruitment begins with first-graders, any boy between 7 and 10 years of age (or in grades one through five) can become a Cub Scout.
The recruitment drive at RMS allows parents and their boys to ask questions of the Scout leaders and sign up for membership.
All new scouts will then be invited to attend the “Hooked On Scouting” fishing event scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rolla Lions Club Park, 1061 South Highway 63 in Rolla.
Participating Scouts will be given a free Zebco rod and reel, Eagle Claw tackle and box, and an opportunity to fish in the park lake and earn a fishing belt loop award.
This event is being sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Eagle Claw and Zebco.
New Cub Scouts will also have an opportunity to participate in or observe returning Scouts as they perform in the annual Cub Scout Olympics that will also be held concurrently at Lions Club Park.
Parents unable to attend the Scout night meeting can still sign up their sons by contacting the Ozark Trails Council Service Center in Rolla at 573-364-1504, or Cheryl Bohannan at or 573-855-9536.
