  • A total of 13 properties were sold at Monday’s delinquent tax sale held outside the Phelps County Courthouse.
According to County Collector Davis Haas, the sale, held the fourth Monday of each August, brought in a surplus of $8,783.32 over the back taxes owed.
The total taxes received was $16,871.58.
A total of 17 lots were up for sale this year, but no bids were received on four of them. That means those properties will be kept by the county until next year’s sale.
Haas said there were about 20 bidders at this years’ tax sale, but close to 50 people attended.
Haas said it was one of the largest number of participants he remembers attending a tax sale.
All lands and lots on which taxes are delinquent and unpaid are subject to sale at a public auction held annually.
Bidding begins for the amount of taxes, penalties and sale costs.
The original property owner may redeem the property anytime within one year from the sale date.
