  • Leadership Phelps County is currently taking applications for its 10th class. This program is intended to help new and existing community leaders build skills while learning more about issues facing Phelps County.
    Among the goals and objectives of Leadership Phelps County include personal growth and effectiveness, commitment to the community, increased community knowledge and enhanced leadership skills.
    By increasing the capacity of individuals within Phelps County and developing a network of leaders, these individuals can respond when a community need arises.
    Leadership Phelps County is a series of 10 classes beginning with a mandatory overnight retreat in September and concluding with an evening graduation ceremony in June.
    Topics will include foundations of Phelps County, local government, community service, economic development, education, healthy communities and a trip to Jefferson City for state government.
    Employees and employers alike should take a look at the program. Businesses with new employees might want to send them to broaden their knowledge of things going on in Phelps County.
    Over 110 participants have completed Leadership Phelps County during the past years.
    Leadership Phelps County will be accepting 15 participants in this year’s class.
    A steering committee, comprised of individuals from organizations throughout Phelps County, continues to work hard to design the curriculum to address issues of local importance.
    The program is open to anyone age 21 and over who is a resident or is employed in Phelps County.
    Tuition for the program is $350. Application forms are available at the University of Missouri Extension office located in the Phelps County Courthouse, 200 N. Main St., Rolla, on the Extension website www.extension.missouri.edu/phelps, or from the Rolla Area Chamber of Commerce website, http://www.rollachamber.org.
    Applications are due by Aug. 29 to the Extension office.
