Practice for Missouri high school squads get underway Monday.

For several days the past few weeks the temperature has felt autumn-like.

Coaches of Missouri high school fall sports teams are hoping that trend continues a little longer.

On Monday prep fall sports squads around the state can officially begin their respective practice sessions.

And all of the fall sports at Rolla, St. James and Newburg high schools will begin meeting and practicing Monday.

Here is a look at the Monday schedule for area fall sports teams:

Rolla High
Football: The Bulldogs will be on Lions Memorial Field from 4-7 p.m. Monday through Friday for practice. RHS will also hold its annual Gatorade Scrimmage on the game field Saturday, Aug. 9, starting at 9 a.m., with the cost of admission being water, soft drink or snack the team can use.

Boys’ Soccer: Head coach Mike Howard will welcome his squad on the RHS practice field (next to Lions Memorial Field) from 9-11 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday practice will be from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Volleyball: New RHS head coach Trish Knight will hold tryouts for the Lady Bulldog players, in grades 9-12, from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the RHS gym. Following the tryouts the regular RHS volleyball practice will be from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday and from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Cross Country: Head Coach Don Knapp is giving his runners a choice of practice times this coming Monday through Friday - either 6:30-8 a.m. or 6:30-8 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 9 the squad will practice from 8-10 a.m. Runners are to meet at the RHS foyer each day.

Softball: Head coach Tim Dunn will meet his team at the RHS Softball Field from 9:30-noon and again at 6 p.m. for hitting stations on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday practice will begin at 4:15 p.m. And on Saturday, Aug. 9 the team is to hold a scrimmage at 9 a.m.

Girls’ Tennis: Coach Cody Kennedy will meet his squad from 8-10 a.m. Monday at the Ber Juan Park tennis courts. He will then give them the schedule for the rest of preseason practice.

Girls’ Golf: Coach Zack Nixon will have a team meeting with his players at 4 p.m. Monday at Oak Meadow Country Club. Practice is scheduled for 4 p.m. each day through Friday at OMCC the rest of the week.

St. James High
Football: Greg Harlan welcomes the Tigers to practice at 3:25-6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday on the new synthetic turf Tiger Field. On Wednesday the squad will practice on the game field at 6 p.m.; begin at 3:25 p.m. on Thursday, and 6 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, Aug. 9 the Tigers will practice from 8-10:30 a.m. on the game field, which will include a short scrimmage.

Boys’ Soccer: The newest fall sport in the school system, St. James boys’ soccer head coach Tom Sawyer says his squad will share the game field with the football team. The first boys’ soccer practice will begin at 3:30 p.m. Monday on the elementary school field.

Cross Country: Coach David Bond said his runners will hold their first practice at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Volleyball: First-year Lady Tiger head coach Julie Guese says her squad will practice in the high school main gym from 4-6 p.m. on Monday and from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. There will be no practice on Thursday.

Softball: Head coach Brad Purvis will hold practice from 5:30-8 p.m. Monday at Nelson Hart Park. Practice the rest of the week will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Newburg High
Baseball: Head coach Russ Mudd said the Wolves will practice from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Newburg High Baseball Field.

Softball: Head coach Andrew Lott will lead the Lady Wolves in practice sessions from 8-10 a.m. Monday through Friday at the Newburg High Field.

Junior High Basketball: The Newburg Junior High School girls’ basketball team’s practice will begin Aug. 18, at 5:30 p.m. For more information see coach Steve Guffey.
