Local U-14 squad tops state ranking; No. 3 nationally.

Xtreme Baseball is No. 1.

Xtreme Baseball, a 14-Under baseball squad from Rolla, is ranked No. 1 in Missouri and No. 3 in the nation in the USSSA 14U AAA power rankings.

Xtreme Baseball has a 34-18 this season.

“It’s the toughest schedule we have played in the last five years,” said Xtreme Baseball coach Larry Daniels. “We played in four different states and played teams from nine states, from New York to New Mexico.

“I set our schedule early in the season, to make sure that we could find the best competition for these boys. And we have to travel a lot to get them the competition they need.”

The squad was moved from AA to AAA by the USSSA this season. Last year the squad took third place in the USSSA 13U AA Missouri State Tournament as well as third in the USSSA AA World Series.

After moving up this year, Xtreme Baseball finished second in the USSSA 14U Missouri State Tournament as well as second in the USSSA Global World Series.

“I was not sure how the boys would handle the jump to AAA, but they picked up right where they left off last year,” Daniels said. “As a coach it’s been a pleasure watching this group of boys grow throughout the years, not only in their baseball skills and knowledge, but also as they mature into young men. One of the most important assets for a coach is the parents, and I would say that I have the most dedicated ones.  Most of them are at all practices and they are at all of the games.

“Our logo for this year was ‘We Are Family’ and that is exactly what this team is…one big family. We even have families and fans that keep track of us on Game Changer, a program that we score our games on. They can watch the game live as we play, its really a great tool with the amount of traveling we do. We were playing in Florida, and before I could leave the dugout, my phone started going off with text messages congratulating the team. We have a lot of people who love to watch Xtreme Baseball.”

Starting the summer of 2015 Xtreme Baseball plans to enter the Premier League and play showcase tournaments. The Premier League is one of the most highly-recruited organizations of select baseball programs in the country.

“This will put them in front of a lot of college scouts and coaches,” Daniels said. “This level of play is what they need, and will give them the opportunity to play at several universities across the country. Also, this will give them more experience as they play high school baseball. I’m excited to watch these boys perform in high school; they will be good additions to some already great high school teams in the area.”

Tryouts for Extreme Baseball for the 2015 season will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 on Bayless Field at Ber Juan Park. For more information contact Daniels at 573-308-8462.
