  • Last Saturday’s participation in the 20th annual Gerald Pilz All-Star Games marked the official beginning of preparation for collegiate basketball for former St. James High School standout Addison Conway.
Conway helped the white squad win the boys’ portion of the all-star games on Saturday, held on the campus of College of the Ozarks.
A 6-6 forward, Conway fired in six points by hitting three consecutive jumpers from the corner to help the white squad win.
Conway, who was also a key player for the St. James High football team as well as a Missouri Class 3 Track and Field State Championship qualifier during the 2013-14 school year, from here on in will be concentrating his athletic efforts on basketball. He signed on with the Westminster College men’s basketball team this past spring.
“I consider it the beginning of my college career,” Conway said of Saturday’s Pilz All-Star event. “Because the best high school players are put together in the all-star game, which is kind of what college is. It prepares you for college. And it’s kind of a reward for doing well in high school.
“I’ve just been lifting, pretty much. I’ll probably start (basketball conditioning) next week. I don’t want to start too early. I have no clue yet when we start doing stuff with the (Westminster) basketball team.”
Conway was an all-district and All-Four Rivers Conference player for the Tigers this past season. He averaged 13.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots per game, as the Tigers finished with a 19-8 record.
He said he is ready for his challenge on the Westminster basketball squad.
“I’ve been getting to know the other basketball players at Westminster,” said Conway, who says for now he plans to major in accounting, but that might change. “I have a lot of confidence from high school in track and basketball.”
