  • Information is being sought about vandals who are believed to have caused damage at Mark Twain National Forest recreation sites in the Houston/Rolla/Cedar Creek Ranger District.
According to Carol Trokey, recreation manager for the district, the damage to several gates near the Mill Creek Recreation Area and Kaintuck Hollow Trail near Newburg is valued at approximately $3,000.
Trokey said the damage was discovered around July 9, so she believes the incidents happened earlier this month.
According to Trokey, there has been a long-standing problem of vandalism in the area.
The vandals also are being blamed for burning and dumping trash in the area.
Trokey said anyone caught vandalizing government property will be subject to fines and restitution of property, including costs of employee salaries to make repairs.
To report vandalism, contact Trokey at 573-592-1400.
