The victim, James Burgener, 68, of Newburg, was found unresponsive by emergency personnel on County Road 7550, four miles west of Newburg, according to the patrol.
The exact time of the incident is unknown, but first responders, including the patrol, Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District and Phelps County Ambulance District, were dispatched to the area around noon. He was taken to a hospital in Columbia.
A relative of Burgener wrote a message to the Daily News Sunday night that stated Burgener "suffered a seizure. He was disoriented and confused as to what had happened. He was not struck by a vehicle and he has NO serious injuries but is staying the night in Columbia for observation."
