  • As the Associated Press and other news organizations have reported, the U.S. Department of Education is investigating sexual assault policies at more than 60 colleges and universities across the United States, including Missouri S&T. Because this is an ongoing investigation, Missouri S&T officials cannot discuss details of the inquiry. The university is cooperating fully with the Department of Education in the investigation and continues to place a high priority on the safety and security of our students, faculty, staff and campus visitors.
Missouri S&T offers a broad array of support services and resources for students, faculty and staff who may have been sexually assaulted. On April 2, 2014, Missouri S&T Chancellor Cheryl B. Schrader shared a listing of those services in an email to the campus community. The text of that email, and the list of resources, is as follows:
Dear Missouri S&T students, faculty and staff:
I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on an issue we take very seriously at Missouri S&T, which is the safety and security of our students, faculty and staff.
As you may recall, University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe recently directed each of the four campuses of the UM System to conduct comprehensive reviews of their respective policies, training and procedures concerning the prevention and reporting of sexual assaults, and the availability of mental health services. This inventory is the first step of a three-phase task force implemented to evaluate whether each UM System campus has the necessary resources to educate the campus community about sexual assault and prevention, an effective process for reporting such incidents, and adequate capacity to address mental health issues among our students, faculty and staff.
I am pleased to report that we have completed our detailed inventory. The following important resources are available here at Missouri S&T for those who have been victims of, or wish to report, a sexual assault, or who may have mental health issues. I encourage you to become familiar with these resources.
