  • Phelps County Family Crisis Services, Inc./Russell House hosted its 20th annual meeting and fundraiser Tuesday, June 10, at the Oak Meadow Country Club.
    The theme of the evening was a "A Look Back to the Beginning,” highlighting the dedication, work and growth that has taken place over the last 20 years.
    The Rev. Hugh Stewart spoke about the founding days of the shelter and how it has grown. Guests were treated to the sounds of the local band Trilogy.
    The following people were sworn in as officers of the board of directors: Cyndra Lowery, president; Vicki Crain, vice president; Maria Grant, treasurer; and Katie Fox, secretary.
    The board of directors members for the 2014-2015 year are: Cindy Allen, S.N. Balakrishnan, Terry Cossette, Katie Croker, Penny Davis, Rose Drain, Marilyn Frederick, Mary Gillis, Lynne Hewkin, Jeanne Jenks, Peggy Leonard, Rhoda Parker, Jennifer O'Day, Starlyn Reynolds and Jon Wilsdorf.
    The Russell House is one of 14 programs under the Phelps County Family Crisis Services, Inc. umbrella.
    The programs provided at the shelter include multiple counseling programs, a children's program and a volunteer program.
    Services provided outside of the shelter include hospital and court advocacy, support groups, Veracity/Batterer's Intervention, violence prevention education and three satellite offices which are women's crisis centers in Maries, Dent and Crawford counties.
