  • The Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood are slated to host a celebration in honor of the Army’s 239th birthday this Friday, June 13.
The birthday events will begin with a division-style run at 5:30 a.m. Friday, followed by a birthday luncheon at 11 a.m. in Nutter Field House.
The oldest and youngest Department of the Army civilians and soldiers will participate in the cake-cutting ceremony. Maj. Gen. Leslie Smith, commanding general, will provide remarks at the birthday luncheon.
This year’s theme is “America’s Army: Our Profession.”
In conjunction with the Army’s birthday, Fort Leonard Wood personnel will take part in celebratory events at the ninth annual Springfield Cardinals’ Fort Leonard Wood Military Appreciation Day game at about 5:40 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Hammons Field in Springfield, Missouri.
During the Fort Leonard Wood Military Appreciation Day, Springfield Mayor Robert Stephens and Smith will sign a memorandum of understanding.
This mutual agreement will allow soldiers, to include those assigned to the 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, to use airport facilities, equipment and life support elements at the airfield to conduct practice drills and activities during actual emergencies within Fort Leonard Wood’s emergency response plan at the Springfield-Branson National Airport.
