  • RTI/RTC students win medals in state competition

  • Twenty-three students at Rolla Technical Institute and Rolla Technical Center (RTI/RTC) won medals in the Missouri SkillsUSA state contests held on the campus of Linn State Technical College in Linn April 3-5.
    Twelve of the medalists are residents of Rolla. They are listed below:
    Drafting and design students:
    Kari Marlatt won a gold medal in the architectural drafting contest.
    Dalton McBride won a gold medal in technical drafting information.
    Paul Patrick won a silver medal in technical drafting information.
    Savannah Swaringam won a bronze medal in architectural drafting technical information.
    Graphic design students:
    Jesse DeFriese won a silver medal in the pin contest.
    Emily Dodge won a silver medal in the T-shirt design contest.
    Savanna Huffman was a member of a three-person team that won a bronze medal in the promotional bulletin board contest.
    Information technology student:
    Ryan Blanc was a member of a three-person team that won a gold medal in the Career Pathway Showcase: information technology contest.
    Masonry students:
    Andrew Wells won a gold medal in the masonry contest.
    Justus Sanders won a gold medal in the masonry technical information contest.
    Wood manufacturing students:
    Stetson Spencer won a silver medal in the cabinetmaking contest.
    Jared McBride won a bronze medal in the cabinetmaking contest.
    Nine of the first-place winners from RTI/RTC will be participating in the 50th annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference to be held at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Missouri, June 23-27.
    The list of all RTI students who will be attending the national convention and their contests is as follows:
    Kari Marlatt, of Rolla — architectural drafting
    Sam Jones, of Rolla — Career Pathway Showcase: information technology (team of three)
    Ryan Blanc, of Rolla — Career Pathway Showcase: information technology (team of three)
    Shay Viehman, of Steelville — Career Pathway Showcase: information technology (team of three)
    Montana Blackburn, of Licking — heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration
    Andrew Wells, of Newburg — masonry
    Cynthia Hinderhan, of St. James — pin design
    Nickolis Buettner, of Steelville — technical drafting
    Ryan Hana, of Cuba, Missouri — T-shirt design
    More than 6,000 state contest winners will compete in hands-on contests in 99 different trade, technical and leadership fields during the conference.
    SkillsUSA is a national organization serving trade, industrial, technical and health occupations students in public high schools, career and technical centers and two-year colleges.
    SkillsUSA has more than 250,000 student and professional members annually, organized into more than 13,000 chapters in 50 states and three territories.
