  • The streets of Newburg will be filled this Saturday, June 14, for the 39th annual Newburg Day.
"We're excited," said Pat Adams, chairman of the Newburg Day Committee. "It's going to be bigger than ever."
This year's theme is "Planes, Trains and Automobiles — Celebrating our American Veterans.”
The event will kick off with the annual parade at 10 a.m. Adams said that close to 50 entries have already signed up for the parade.
Some of the parade this year will start at Cookin' From Scratch in Doolittle and merge with the other half of the parade that will start at Newburg High School.
The grand marshals of the parade are any and all o veterans. Veterans who would like to be in the parade should show up at Cookin’ From Scratch on Saturday by 9 a.m. for the parade line-up.
Opening ceremonies will kick off at 11 a.m. at the town's gazebo with music by the Newburg Area Community Choir followed by the presentation of colors by the Phelps County Honor Guard at 11:30 a.m. Other performers include the Rosa String Band, Together Again and craft karaoke.
There will be music and entertainment performances on stages throughout the city. Over 50 craft vendors will be set up along the main streets and along Highway T.
"For the first time we will have a classic car cruise-in and the Lyric Live Theater will be hosting an open mic and live music," Adams said.
The classic car and motorcycle cruise-in will take place on Water Street. The open mic event will start at 10 a.m.
There also will be tours of the Newburg Children's Museum, Newburg Historical Society Museum on Water Street and the Newburg High School Hall of Fame on Wolf Pride Drive.
Entertainment also is planned at the Little Piney Community Park.
A shuttle bus will run from 11 a.m. until the close of events from downtown Newburg to the Doolittle City Hall to the Army Burns Surplus for General Jimmy Doolittle Victory Day. There will be limited parking at Burns Army Surplus.
