  • The public is invited to kick off their summer reading with books from the Friends of the Rolla Public Library book sale, which runs this Thursday, June 5, through Saturday, June 7.
The sale will be held in the basement of the library, at the corner of Ninth and Pine streets.
The sale will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. for Friends of the Library members only, but people can join at that time to get the early picks of some great books.
The cost of a membership is $5 for seniors and students with school ID, $10 for an individual or $25 for a family.
Then Friday, the sale will open to the public at 9 a.m. and run through 5 p.m.
Saturday, public hours will be from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. The sale will close for about 15 minutes and then reopen at 2:30 p.m. where the public can fill a bag with books and pay $1 per bag. The sale will end at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
According to Friends of the Library members, this year there is a good selection of cookbooks. Additionally, there are many premium books to select from starting at $3.
There also are many children's books — most for 10 cents or 25 cents apiece.
Regular hardcover books are $1 and paperbacks are 50 cents. There also will be magazines, music CDs and tapes, book CDs and tapes and VHS tapes for sale.
Some books are speciality, rare, historical and other unusual selections. An unusual item donated for sale is a 1950s tin doll house still in the box that has never been assembled.
All proceeds from the sale and membership fees go to the Rolla Public Library. Past sales have helped the children's library, as well as the purchase of computers, printers, furnishings and books.
