Sets school record in the prelims; finishes seventh in finals.

The Rolla High School track team made it to the medal stand on Saturday, as the Bulldogs’ 4x400-meter boys’ relay team finished seventh in the final race at the Missouri Class 4 Track and Field Championships at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

The RHS 4x400-meter team of junior Jordan Kaden, junior James Kosbar, senior Hunter Short and senior Austin Parks earned all-state honors in the finals with a time of 3:22.4.

That relay foursome set the RHS school record in the preliminaries on Friday with a time of 3:20.67 - finishing fifth overall in the prelims. On Saturday’s the team’s finals time was its second-fastest of the season and fourth fastest in school history.

Also for Rolla over the weekend, senior Chase Bartle finished 15th overall in the boys’ shot put at 46-11 1/4; the boys’ 4x200-meter relay team of Kaden, sophomore Aaron Read, sophomore Nathan Cunningham and Kosbar finished 13th overall at 1:33.42, and freshman Addy Brow was 16th in the girls’ 1,600-meter run at 5:48.55.

One of Rolla’s most solid chances at an all-state berth, senior Aaron Froehlich in the triple jump, did not compete. Due to weather-related reschedulings at the Missouri Soccer State Cup in St. Louis, Froehlich could not attend Saturday’s triple jump event. Also, Parks had qualified for the Class 4 State Meet in the open 400-meter dash, but did not compete.

“I was proud of all the kids at state,” said RHS head coach Don Knapp. “Setting the (4x400) school record and the four all-state athletes is a great finish to an already good season.”
