  • Charity Satterfield is a well-known face at the office of St. James Schools Superintendent Joy Tucker.
She also has a peaceful speaking voice, which is a good quality for someone who deals with the public.
With past experience in the secretarial field and as an educator, she was a good fit for her current position as superintendent/board secretary.
As a mother, working with the school system keeps her close to her children, which she says is definitely one of the perks of the job.
"I really love every aspect of my job," she said. "The thing that stands out the most is the fact that I get to help everyone in the district, including the community, parents, teachers, staff and students. I also enjoy working with such caring and compassionate co-workers."
Here is a little more about Satterfield:
Tell me a little about your professional background.
I received my bachelor of science degree in biology in 2010. I decided that I wanted to start teaching because I wanted be on the same schedule as my children. I then began taking education classes. I taught high school biology, anatomy and physiology at Vienna, Missouri, for two years prior to my current position at St. James.
What attracted you to the job?
One of the main reasons that attracted me to the position was the location. My children are in the St. James School District as well. I went to school at St. James and I have worked for the district in prior years. I think it is a great place to work.
    Where are you from originally?
I am originally from St. James. I have lived here since I was 4 years old. Before that my parents lived in the area. I will always consider St. James to be my hometown.
What do you like most about living/working St. James?
St. James is such a caring community. I have seen this community come together and really help others. The amount of support that this community has is absolutely astonishing. It makes me very grateful to live in a place such as St. James.
What are some of your short-term/long-term professional goals?
Currently, I am planning on staying at my position within the St. James School District. My children are still small and they will be in school for a while longer. I would eventually like to go back to college and work toward my master’s degree and possibly teach at a college level.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be in the medical field helping others. This is why I went college to pursue my biology degree. I really wanted to be an anesthesiologist. With having children, my priorities changed. I felt I needed to look for a position that was close to the same schedule as my children so I would be there for them.
Page 2 of 2 - What do you do to relax?
I enjoy watching movies with my kids or just taking some time to sit down and read a good book.
    Favorite subject in school?
My favorite subjects in school were art and agriculture.
    Favorite historical figure?
My favorite historical figure would be Jesus. He truly cared about everyone no matter what they did or looked like. He taught people to love, hope, live, dream and have passion for what they believed in. He is someone that I believe everyone could learn from. He is not only a role model but a great teacher and inspiration to many.
    Best vacation ever?
I cannot pick out just one vacation that is my favorite because every year we go on vacation with my family and it is great. I enjoy spending a whole week with just them and not worrying about anything else.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
It is really hard to say where I see myself in 10 years. Right now, I can easily see myself doing the same thing as I am doing now. I absolutely love my job and do not want to do anything else while my children are still in school.
