At Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau next week.
Two members of the Rolla High School boys’ golf team have made it to the Missouri Class 4 State Tournament.
Senior Mark Martin and sophomore Ben Burris are the Bulldog golfers who qualified through Monday’s Missouri Class 4 Section 3 Tournament at the Carthage Municipal Golf Course.
Martin shot 6-over-par 77 while Burris carded a 78 on Monday.
The third Bulldog to make it to sectionals, senior Jake Drewniak, narrowly missed going to state, missing the cut by one stroke with his 81 after ending his day with a triple-bogey and a birdie.
Martin and Burris will compete in the Missouri Class 4 State Tournament Monday and Tuesday of next week at the Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau.
It’s the first state tourney for Burris and the second for Martin. Martin missed the state meet cut by one stroke both as a freshman and junior.
“I’m really happy to get two of them through,” said RHS coach Zack Nixon. “Ben has really stepped up his game; I’m really happy to see him get to this point. Martin wasn’t on top of his game and had to grind some. But he made it.”
The meet medalist at Class 4 Section 3 was John Fuchs of Springfield Kickapoo, shooting 70. Republic’s Dylan Bekemeier and Springfield Glendale’s Sam Holmes tied for second with 72.
Glendale was the sectional team champion with 308 while Columbia Rock Bridge was second with 309. Both advance to the state meet as full teams.
Another state qualifier with Rolla ties is Rock Bridge’s Stephen Sowers, who shot 79. Sowers is the son of former Rolla residents Stephen and Linda (Franz) Sowers. His grandfather is Steve Sowers, of Rolla, and Betty Franz, of Rolla.
