  • A preliminary hearing is scheduled for today in Maries County for a Rolla man who faces charges of statutory rape, statutory sodomy and possession of child pornography.
The three charges were brought against Lucas E. Slawson, 19, of Rolla, in connection with an investigation of a sexual molestation case conducted by the Maries County Sheriff’s Department.
Slawson has been charged with first-degree statutory rape and first-degree statutory sodomy, both unclassified felonies, and possession of child pornography, a Class C felony.
Slawson was arrested May 6 after the Maries County Sheriff’s Department, through its Facebook page, asked for the public’s help in finding him.
Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman said he had been wanted for about a week and that law enforcement had been attempting to get him to turn himself in.
    Slawson’s cash-only bond was set at $20,000.
According to a probable cause statement filed with the Maries County Circuit Court, Slawson “admitted to engaging in sexual intercourse and deviant sexual intercourse” with a 13-year-old girl on March 22, 2014.
Maries County sheriff’s deputies took Slawson’s cellphone, with his consent, and a search of the device revealed “pornographic material of a young female subject.” The victim’s mother confirmed the photos on the cellphone were of her daughter.
Court documents state Slawson “came of his own free will” to speak with a sheriff’s deputy and “admitted that he had been in possession of pornographic pictures” of the victim.
