  • Q&A with Patricia French, a nurse at PCRMC
    Name: Patricia French.
    Age: 45.
    Hometown: Rolla.
Education: Graduated from Rolla High School in 1987 and graduated from Columbia College with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice administration. I then decided to make a career change and graduated with an AAS in nursing in 2009 and then just recently finished my bachelor's degree in nursing in 2013. My next challenge is to start my master’s degree in nursing.
Family: It will be 19 years of marriage this July to my wonderful and very supportive husband Steven French, and we have one daughter, Shelbi, who will be turning 16 this year. We also have a very large extended family.
Hobbies/other interests: Spending time with my family, walking my dogs, reading, cooking, baking and shopping.
How many years have you been a nurse: In June of 2014, it will be five years.
Why did you decide to become a nurse? I always felt a calling for nursing. No matter what career path I chose, nursing seemed to always be in the back of my mind. After a lot of thinking and praying I made the decision to start nursing school because I wanted to make a positive impact in the lives of others, and I hope to this day I have done just that.
Were/are you inspired by any other nurses? I have been lucky enough to have had the pleasure of meeting some health care professionals who have inspired me, and I hope to one day equal their skill, diligence and passion.
What is the best part of your job? The best part of my job is that I will always have stability and flexibility. There are so many career paths you can take in nursing. It is a very fast paced, high stress environment, however it can be very rewarding and fulfilling too.
What advice would you give to people who may be considering going into nursing? I would say that if you love helping others and if the No. 1 reason you want to become a nurse is because of your compassion, then you should go for it!
