  • The Rolla High School girls’ soccer team claimed a share of its first Ozark Conference championship since 2006 Tuesday night.
And the Lady Bulldogs did it in shutout fashion against state-ranked competition.
Rolla clinched a share of the OC crown by shutting out Springfield Glendale 1-0 Tuesday on Lions Memorial Field at the Bray Sports Complex.
RHS, ranked No. 4 in the Missouri Class 2 state poll, improves to 15-3 overall and 8-0 in the conference. The Glendale Lady Falcons came in ranked No. 5 in the Missouri Class 3 state poll.
The only remaining conference game on the Lady Bulldogs’ schedule is the conclusion of a home game against Camdenton.
The Rolla-Camdenton game will be restarted after it was stopped just 3:30 into the contest on April 24 with Rolla leading 1-0. The game is to continue on Tuesday, May 13 at the Bray Sports Complex. A win over Camdenton gives RHS the league title outright.
“It’s a tough conference and these girls have played very well this year,” said Rolla head coach Mike Howard. “It is nice to see them rewarded for it.”
The first half was scoreless, thanks to the play of Glendale keeper Kindra Lierz, who has already committed to play at NCAA Division I school Southeast Missouri State. Lierz made a number of snappy saves to keep RHS off the scoreboard, as the Lady Bulldogs outshot the Lady Falcons 8-1.
Rolla finally broke through with just under nine minutes remaining, as freshman Addy Brow scored on a ball played across the goal by freshman Morgan Gabriele.
“Kindra is the real deal; one of the best girls’ keepers that I have ever seen,” Howard said. “We talked at halftime about playing the ball across the goal on the ground and trying to get one that way. We sure were not having much luck with straight shots on goal getting past her.”
But as good as Lierz was, RHS sophomore keeper Katie Hudson was better, recording the 12th shutout on the season for RHS.
Rolla also won the junior varsity game 5-0.
Amber Walters netted three goals for the Lady Bulldog jayvee squad, now 9-3, while Caroline Victor scored twice. RHS jayvee assists came from Marissa Hill, Morgan Phenix and Victor.
Rolla will play in a pair of games Friday at the Quincy (Ill.) Notre Dame Classic, meeting U. High at 3 p.m. and Sacred Heart Griffin of Springfield, Ill. at 6:15 p.m.
