Glendale wins league team title.
The Rolla High School boys’ tennis team placed fourth in a competitive Ozark Conference Tournament Tuesday at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
Springfield Glendale captured the OC team title with 42 points while Joplin and Springfield Kickapoo tied for runner-up with 33. Joplin took second on the highest-placement tiebreaker.
Rolla was fourth with 23 points while Camdenton and Waynesville tied with 21 (Camdenton won the tiebreaker), Lebanon was seventh with 18, Springfield Hillcrest eighth with 15, Springfield Parkview ninth with 11 and West Plains 10th with seven.
There were two singles flights and two doubles flights. Glendale’s Micah Klousia was Flight 1 singles champion, Glendale’s Hayden Fulk Flight 2 singles champion, the Joplin team of Luke Frogge-Edran Ali Flight 1 doubles champion and the Glendale team of Young-Jarvis Flight 2 doubles champion.
Nathan Graham was sixth in Flight 1 singles. Graham beat Dakota Nichols of Lebanon 8-3 in the first round, lost to Mitch Howard of Kickapoo 8-2, beat T.J. Broden of Camdenton 6-0 and lost to Wilcox of Joplin 6-4.
Aidan Gelles placed fourth in Flight 2 singles. Gelles got a first-round bye then beat Hillcrest’s Sam Hallam 8-5, lost to Fulk 8-3 and lost to Box of Joplin 8-3.
Parker Nesbitt-Jarod Rieth placed seventh in Flight 1 doubles.
Nesbitt-Rieth lost to Lebanon’s Chad Howerton-Bennett Brown 9-8 (7-3), beat Parkview’s Pennington-Voltier 6-0, lost to Howerton-Brown 6-2 in a rematch and beat West Plains Singletary-Noakes 6-2.
Ben Hushaw-Priyank Madria placed fourth in Flight 2 doubles.
Hushaw-Madria got a first-round bye and then beat Camdenton’s Pearson-Brewer 8-3, lost to Kickapoo’s Wu-Musick 8-3 and lost to Joplin’s Hill-Crider 8-3.
“The whole conference was competitive,” said RHS head coach Cody Kennedy. “Going in I told our kids I thought we were third or fourth in the conference, and that’s where we finished. I thought all of our kids played well.”
The Bulldogs are slated to play at West Plains in a dual meet on Thursday.
Rolla 6, Lebanon 3
In a dual meet on Monday at Ber Juan Park, the Bulldogs defeated Lebanon 6-3. It was Senior Day for RHS, which improved to 6-4 in dual-meet action.
RHS winners on Monday included Graham, Gelles and Madria in singles play and the doubles teams of Gelles-Nesbitt, Graham-Rieth and Hushaw-Madria.
