Martin, Burris, Drewniak move on to sectionals.
The Rolla High School boys’ golf team missed out on advancing to sectionals as a full team by just three strokes, but the Bulldogs are still sending three individuals on from Monday’s Missouri Class 4 District 5 Tournament at Old Kinderhook Golf Course.
The top two finishing teams, plus the other top 15 individuals and ties, moved from the district tournament to the Class 4 Section 3 Tournament, to be held Monday, May 12 at the Carthage Municipal Golf Course.
Bulldog golfers who qualified for the sectional meet as individuals were senior Mark Martin, sophomore Ben Burris and senior Jake Drewniak.
Columbia Rock Bridge and Camdenton finished 1-2 in the team standings to earn the sectional berths at 304 and 325, respectively. Rolla just missed, shooting 328.
Martin and Burris got second-place medals by shooting two-over-par 73. Drewniak shot 82. Rounding out Rolla’s scoring were Peter Beaugard and Denver Spurgeon, who both shot 100.
Meet medalists were Rock Bridge’s Will Echelmeier and Camdenton’s Michael Pfitzner, who both shot 71.
Now Martin, Burris and Drewniak prepare for Monday’s sectional competition. The top two finishing teams, plus the additional top 12 individuals and ties, advance to the Missouri Class 4 State Tournament, to be held at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau.
