Wolves win in eight innings.
The Newburg High School baseball team improved to 4-10 overall and 1-3 in Frisco League play by beating Stoutland 10-6 in eight innings on Thursday.
Each team scored a run in the first inning and the scored stayed that way until the top of the fourth, when the Newburg Wolves tallied four more.
Stoutland chipped away, scoring one run in the sixth inning and plating three in the seventh to tie the game up 5-5 and force extra innings.
However, the Wolves quickly regained the advantage by scoring five times in the top of the eighth, including a two-run double by Dusten Reagan.
Stoutland countered with a run in the eighth before falling short.
Newburg outhit Stoutland 13-6 and took advantage of six Stoutland errors.
Alan Yelton was the starting pitcher for Newburg, working seven innings and allowing five runs on five hits and six walks while fanning nine. Reagan pitched the seventh to get the victory.
Troy Constable was 3-for-5 for the Wolves while Reagan was 2-for-5 and Tristan Hoffman, Joey Brinkley, Caleb Wofford and Hunter Rigsby all had a hit.
