Bulldogs "Solid in all phases."

Putting together perhaps its most complete game of the season, the Rolla High School baseball team defeated the Joplin Eagles 4-1 Tuesday in Ozark Conference action on the FCNB Field at the Bray Sports Complex.

Rolla improves to 11-8 overall and 3-3 in league play. Joplin falls to 13-6 and 2-2.

Junior right-hander Mason Pickrell went the distance on the mound for the Bulldogs to gain the victory. Pickrell allowed four hits, two hit-batsman and two walks over seven innings.

The lone run Pickrell allowed came in the top of the seventh inning when a walk and two singles loaded the bases and then a walk to Joplin’s Tristan Ash forced home the run.

Rolla took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when junior Andy Satulla singled and later scored on an RBI single by junior Collin Nash.

The Bulldogs added another run in the fourth when Nash and junior Dalton Turner both singled followed by a RBI groundout by senior Matt Claypool.

RHS made it 4-0 with its final two runs in the fifth, as Satulla reached on an error, advanced on a sacrifice from senior Bryan Peach and scored on senior Seth Stevens’ RBI triple. Stevens would score on an error.

“All around it was a solid effort,” said RHS head coach Karl Odenwald. “Pickrell was solid. He did a nice job keeping the Joplin hitters off-balanced.

“We executed at the plate, had a couple of timely hits. It was as solid a game as we’ve played all year in all phases.”

Nash was 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Bulldogs while Satulla was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Turner and junior Jake Stephens each went 2-for-3.

Rolla outhit Joplin 9-4.

Joplin won the junior varsity game 7-4.

Freshmen Zach Studdard and Trey Sinnott each had a double for the Rolla jayvee squad, now 3-8. Studdard was the losing hurler.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to play at Springfield Thursday against Glendale in a conference game. On Friday Rolla is to host Licking at 4:30 p.m. in non-league action on the FCNB Field.
