  • The state-ranked Lutheran-St. Charles High School baseball team ended a pitchers’ duel in extra innings, plating two runs in the top of the eighth frame to clip Rolla High School 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
The game was and add-on to the Rolla Bulldogs’ schedule, caused by losing a couple of earlier games to rainouts. Lutheran-St. Charles went 3-0 over the weekend in Waynesville, beating host Waynesville 8-5 on Friday and also topping Russellville 11-0 on Saturday morning.
Rolla falls to 10-8 while the Lutheran-St. Charles Cougars, ranked No. 6 in the most recent Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association state poll, improve to 18-2.
The Cougars scored a run in the third inning and Rolla tied it up in the fifth.
In the Bulldog fifth St. Charles walked the bases loaded, and junior Dalton Turner would score on a wild pitch.
It remained 1-1 through seven innings.
However, the Cougars broke the tie in the top of the eighth on a RHS error and back-to-back singles, the second one an RBI. A fielder’s choice scored the second run of the inning.

Junior right-hander Jake Stephens was the tough-luck loser on the mound for RHS, going the distance. He allowed six hits, two hit-batsmen and two walks over the eight innings while fanning five.
Also on Saturday Rolla played a pair of games in the Springfield Glendale JV Tournament, losing both. The Rolla jayvee squad lost to Springfield Parkview 6-3 and fell to Glendale 8-1.
This week the Bulldogs are scheduled to host Joplin in Ozark Conference play today on the FCNB Field at the Bray Sports Complex (varsity game at 4:30 p.m., jayvee contest to follow), travel to Glendale for a league game Thursday (4:30 p.m. and return home Friday for a non-conference game against Licking (4:30 p.m.).
