  • S&T bands to perform concert May 4

  • The Missouri University of Science and Technology Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony will perform in a concert on the S&T campus in May.
    The concert will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, located at 10th and Main streets in Rolla. Dr. Robert Cesario, assistant professor of arts, languages and philosophy, will conduct the bands.
    The Symphonic Band will perform “A Carmen Celebration” by Georges Bizet, “Japanese Slumber Song” by Gareth Wood and “Vesuvius” by Frank Ticheli.
    Then, a marimba trio featuring Jacob Nall, a sophomore in aerospace engineering from Kearney, Trevin Howerton, a sophomore in mechanical engineering from Weatherby Lake, and Robbie Link, a senior in mechanical engineering from Kansas City, Mo., will perform “Stubernic” by Mark Ford.
    The Wind Symphony will take the stage with “Overture on Russian and Kirghiz Folk Songs” by Dmitri Shostakovich. Joe Merod, a senior in chemical engineering from Moro, Ill., and Andrew Cudd, a senior in computer engineering from Overland Park, Kan., will perform trombone solos during “Concerto for Trombone and Band” by N. Rimsky-Korsakov.
    The band will also perform the world premiere of Tony Cesario’s “Transit Umbra” followed by Leroy Anderson’s “Bugler’s Holiday” featuring trumpeters Derek Anderson, a senior in physics from Blue Springs, Nick Santoro, a senior in ceramic engineering from Collinsville, Ill., and Michael Bouchard, a senior in geology and geophysics from Ballwin.
    The Wind Symphony will round out its performance with “Fantasy Variations on a Theme by Niccolo Paganini” by James Barnes.
    Tickets are $5 for the general public and free for S&T faculty, staff and students who present a valid campus I.D. and youth age 18 or younger.
    Tickets can be purchased from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Leach Theatre box office located in the vestibule of the main entrance of Castleman Hall, facing 10th street, or by calling 573-341-4219
