Tell me a little about your professional background?
I have worked as a restaurant manager for nine years and then switched over to manufacturing. I was the lead foreman and later the director of operations for Airpath Instrument Company in St. Louis for 22 years. I was instrumental in achieving AS-9100 registration for the company. I now enjoy working as the director of quality assurance at Tacony Manufacturing in St. James. I love the manufacturing environment. Now I build Maytag vacuum cleaners.
What do you like most about living/working in St. James?
I am not sure where to start. I like the slower pace than what I had in the big city. I can walk into most businesses in town, and the people there know my name and recognize me. I love the little houses and the beautiful trees in the Forest City. I like talking to residents who stop by to see how the vegetables are growing in the backyard, and we catch up on the latest news. We are all like family here.
What do you like most/least about your job/position?
What I like most is being able to make a mark each day. I get to make meaningful input and see results for the time and effort I put into what I do. Let me say that a lot of that depends largely on the tenor set by the plant manager. I think that Jim Fleming has developed a fantastic work environment at Tacony. It goes along with everything else you have to love about St. James. What I like least is that we only get free slushies in the summer.
What is one thing you would like to see change in your local community?
If it must be just one, then I would like to see St. James grow in the right ways; more local commerce.  We could have more little shops, an old time soda fountain, things like that. Remove the need to drive to Walmart or out of town to find things you need. Keep it all local. Draw in visitors.
What in your opinion is the perfect job?
Doing what you have passion for. Love what you do. Few there will be who ever find it.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a scientist. I wanted to discover faster, less expensive ways to travel. I hoped to be an inventor. Kind of funny, I grew up to critique other people’s inventions instead.
Page 2 of 2 - Who is your hero?
Jesus Christ. No one else has done more for me personally, or for humanity than Him. He has set a selfless example for all of us.
What do you do to relax?
I enjoy gardening and using my home-built smoker to prepare the best pulled pork you ever had.
    Who is your best friend?
My wife Diane is my best friend. She is there when I need her and there when I do not. She cares for me and for my welfare more than for her own. I enjoy her company. She understands all of my craziness. Best of all, she keeps me on track.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Getting ready to retire, enjoying my grandchildren, and a larger garden I can have them work in while I watch from a rocking chair on the porch.
    Favorite historical figure?
    George Washington.
Pick one: Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley or Otis Redding?
    Elvis Presley.
