  • Highlighted by a school-record performance in the triple jump by senior Aaron Froehlich, the Rolla High School boys’ and girls’ track teams had productive days in the Capital City Relays Friday at Jefferson City High School.
The Rolla Lady Bulldogs placed second in the 12-school team standings while the RHS boys finished third in a field of 13.
Host Jefferson City won both the girls’ title (255 points) and boys’ title (150 points). The Rolla girls finished with 82 points and the Rolla boys with 81.
For the second consecutive season Froehlich was the winner of the Larry York Triple Jump Trophy. Also winning a special trophy was the boys’ 4x400-meter relay team of James Kosbar, Jordan Kaden, Austin Parks and Hunter Short which won with a time of 3:26.55.
At the Capital City Relays, special trophies are given to the winners of the boys’ triple jump, the 4x400-meter relay, the shot put and the top two teams in overall scoring for boys and girls, so Rolla brought home three of them.
The boys’ triple jump featured a duel between Froehlich and Jefferson City’s Mervyn John.
In the opening round Froehlich hit a 45-10 triple jump but in the second round John topped him at 46-7.
Froehlich then set a RHS school mark with a leap of 46-8 to regain the lead. However, that lead lasted about two minutes, as John hit 46-9. Then, in his final round of jumps, Froehlich broke his own mark at 47-0 to regain the lead for good.
Froehlich also won the long jump at 20-11 and ran a leg of the second-place 4x200-meter team, which also included Kaden, Parks and Short, at 1:32.26.
Another first place for the Rolla boys came from the 1,600-meter spring medley relay team of James Kosbar, Kaden, Keegan Chrisco and Short at 3:36.81.
Tying for second place in the pole vault was Caleb Waldman at 11-6.
The Lady Bulldogs took a first place in the distance medley relay, with Madison Collier, Shannon McCaul, Joanna Callier and Sophia Holmes with a time of 13:51.55.
Lady Bulldog second places came from the shuttle hurdle relay of Kayla Reed, Krystal O’Connor, Jessica Bramer and Emily O’Neal at 1:19.59 and the 4x800-meter relay of Collier, McCaul, Callier and Holmes at 10:14.96.
Rolla is scheduled to compete in the Washington-Russell C. Nix Invitational today and are to compete in the Owensville Invitational on Friday. The Rolla junior varsity teams are to compete at Jefferson City today and at Springfield Glendale Thursday.
