  • Myers will lead school board for 2014-15

  • Jamie Myers, who had served the past year as president-elect, took the president’s gavel Thursday night at the Rolla Board of Education meeting during the annual reorganization.
    The board, under the direction of president Jim Packard, accepted the April 8 election returns, now official, then adjourned.
    During the adjournment, board secretary Nancy McWhorter administered the oath of office to the three re-elected board members, Jane Haskell, Tony Froehlich and Keith Strassner.
    Superintendent of Schools Dr. Aaron Zalis then chaired the meeting temporarily while the board formally moved Myers from the president-elect’s position to the president’s position.
    Froehlich was voted in as president-elect.
    The board appointed director Greg Stratman as treasurer.
    Committee appointments were also made:
    Strassner will continue as the board representative on the A-Plus Schools committee.
    Jeanne Cavender and Packard will continue as board reps on the RISE (Rolla’s Investment in Student Enrichment) Committee.
    Strassner will succeed Froehlich as the Champions of Rolla Education (CORE) board representative.
    Myers, Froehlich and Stratman were appointed to serve as the Crisis Management Team.
    Assistant Superintendent Craig Hounsom continues as the ESEA Title I authorized representative.
    Myers, Stratman and Packard will be the Audit Committee.
    Myers and Froehlich will be the Missouri School Boards Association delegate and alternate to the June and October meetings.
    Froehlich and Stratman will continue serving on the Policy Committee.
    Cavender and Myers will continue serving on the Special Education Committee.
    Haskell will continue as the representative to the TAB Committee.
    Cavender and Haskell will continue serving with Hounsom on the Residency Waiver Committee.
    A special Rolla Board of Education meeting will be held Friday, April 25, at 7:30 a.m. The meeting will begin will a closed session to address personnel issues and will conclude with a brief open session to address staffing needs for next year.
    The board meetings in May will be May 1 and 15.
    The June meetings will be June 12 and 30. The meeting on June 30 will be an early-morning meeting.
