  • Maples named Teacher of the Year

  • Jenny Maples, mathematics teacher at Rolla Junior High School, was selected as the school district's Teacher of the Year representative for the state contest, the Rolla Board of Education announced Thursday night.

  • Jenny Maples, mathematics teacher at Rolla Junior High School, was selected as the school district's Teacher of the Year representative for the state contest, the Rolla Board of Education announced Thursday night.
    Maples is also a robotics team coach and the Professional Learning Community math team leader.
    "Her professionalism, attitude, cheerfulness and competence make her a positive asset to the district," the school noted in an announcement read by board President Jim Packard at the beginning of the public meeting.
    Packard presented Maples with a board award certificate.
    Also announced were the other candidates for the Teacher of the Year contest:
    •Cara Hanlin, Rolla Middle School, a seventh grade math teacher who is also involved in the building's Professional Leadership Team: "Cara is very knowledgeable in her field and is a committed lifelong learner. Her positive attitude and professionalism are great assets to Rolla Middle School and the district."
    •Julie Peterman, the Wyman Elementary School counselor, a contributor to the success of the Positive Behavior program in which she is heavily involved: "Mrs. Peterman has an impact on every student at Wyman Elementary. She is involved in many programs and processes to assist students in being successful. Wyman Elementary and the district are pleased to have such a dedicated student advocate and educator.”
    • Jeff Sandquist, vocal music director at Rolla High School and Rolla Junior High School: "He works in the community promoting the community arts program as well. He is respected statewide for his work and choirs. His personal and professional attitude make him a tremendous asset for the district."
    Noted the announcement as read by Packard: "The district is fortunate to have four such outstanding teachers capable and willing to represent the district."
