Lady Bulldogs complete three-game Springfield sweep.
The Rolla High School girls’ soccer team assured a three-game sweep of its recent Springfield trek by blasting Hillcrest 7-1 in Ozark Conference action Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs, ranked No. 7 in the Missouri Class 2 state poll, won road games over Springfield schools Parkview, Kickapoo and Hillcrest in their last three outings to improve to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
On Wednesday Rolla was scheduled to host Union, ranked No. 9 in the Class 2 state poll, in a make-up, non-conference game.
A victory over Union would be the 700th career win (boys’ and girls’ soccer combined) for RHS head coach Mike Howard.
Wednesday’s game was to begin a stretch of six consecutive home games for RHS. The Lady Bulldogs are slated to host Hazelwood West on Friday (4:30 p.m.) and Hazelwood Central on Saturday (noon) at the Bray Sports Complex.
Senior forward Nicole Howard erupted for four goals to power the Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday while freshman Morgan Gabriele added two and sophomore Brynn Proffitt one.
Freshman Addy Brow had two assists while sophomore Caroline Victor and Howard each had one.
“It will be nice to have some home games,” Mike Howard said. “We have started the season with a tough stretch of trips but were able to come out of it in pretty good shape in terms of our record, especially in conference play.
“Union should be a good test for us. Last year they outplayed us and we were able to get a win; I’m sure they will come in very motivated.”
Rolla won the junior varsity game 10-0. Amber Walters had three goals for the Rolla jayvee squad, now 5-1, while Victor and Morgan Phenix each had two and Ally Melson, Sam Turner and Sierra LcClaire one each.
Phenix had two jayvee assists and Marissa Hill, Victor and Walters one each. Calista McCormack got the jayvee shutout.
