Bulldogs survive seventh-inning jam.

They had to sweat through a bases-loaded, no out, seventh-inning jam, but the Rolla Bulldogs finally pulled out a Ozark Conference victory Tuesday.

Senior right-hander Seth Stevens survived the seventh inning to go the distance, pitching Rolla to a 5-3 decision over arch-rival Waynesville.

Rolla improves to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in the OC while the Waynesville Tigers fall to 4-9 and 1-2.

RHS went into the bottom of the seventh up 5-2. However, the Tigers loaded the bases on Stevens with no outs.

Waynesville senior Shane Jewett drove in a run while being tagged out at first base to cut the Bulldog advantage to 5-3.

Stevens then ended things by striking out the next batter and getting a fly ball to center for the final out.

RHS got a run in the top of the first inning when junior Andy Satulla doubled and scored on senior Bryan Peach’s RBI single.

Rolla made it 3-0 in the fourth frame, as senior Matthew Claypool and junior Dalton Turner both walked ahead of a two-run double Satulla sliced down the leftfield line.

The Tigers closed their gap to 3-2 with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth, as senior Joseph Murray belted an RBI triple followed by a run-scoring bunt by senior Jaylen Bragg.

RHS plated two more in the top of the seventh inning, as Peach doubled, advanced on a wild pitch followed by a walk and stolen base by Stevens.

Junior Collin Nash and Clayton each delivered RBI singles.

Stevens allowed four hits and no walks while fanning six over seven innings.

“Overall he pitched really well,” RHS head coach Karl Odenwald said of Stevens. “We had some timely hitting and played solid defense for the most part.

“We had opportunities to blow it open. But their pitcher did a good job.”

Satulla was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI for the Bulldogs while Peach, Clayton and Claypool were all 2-for-4 and Turner was 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Rolla outhit Waynesville 10-4. Each team committed three errors.

Trey Simpson was the losing pitcher for Waynesville. He worked 6 1/3 innings before giving the ball to his brother, Trent, to finish up.
Rolla won the junior varsity game 5-1.

Sophomore Chuck Whitson was the winning pitcher for the Rolla jayvee squad, working the first three innings. Sophomore Drake Davis pitched the final two frames for the RHS jayvee squad.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to host West Plains today in another OC game, starting at 4:30 p.m. on the FCNB Field at the Bray Sports Complex.
