  • Dr. Greg Story, associate professor of physics at Missouri University of Science and Technology, will present a general lecture on how the universe is impacted by natural forces at The Centre next week.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
Story’s lecture, titled “The Four Forces of Nature,” will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in Meeting Room A of The Centre, 1200 Holloway St., in Rolla.
Story’s lecture will describe how the four forces of nature - gravity, the electro-magnetic force, strong and weak nuclear forces - all shape everything seen in the universe, from the smallest to largest scale. He will also touch on Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity and basic quantum mechanics.
“To see how these forces shape the world around us, we have to not only look at the forces themselves but also understand the rules by which the forces act,” said Story.
“The subject of the lecture will give the audience a basic understanding of not only what we can see, but of an invisible world we can only perceive through measurements with modern scientific equipment," he said.
