Bulldog 2014 schedule is announced.
The Rolla High School football team is usually one of those football schools “on the bubble” of Class 5 or Class 4.
That was again the case this school year as RHS officials waited for the new classifications for the next two years to be released.
And as it turns out, the Bulldogs are staying put.
Rolla is again in Class 5 District 4, announced by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) on Saturday.
Longtime district rivals Rolla, Waynesville, Camdenton and Lebanon - all members of the Ozark Conference - are again grouped together with Washington. The lone change is that Sedalia Smith-Cotton has moved to District 6 and has been replaced in District 4 by new program Columbia Battle.
“With us there is always an outside chance of us moving down because we’re always borderline Class 4 and 5,” said RHS football head coach Willie Howard. “Some smaller schools added football, which keeps us in Class 5.
“With us being the size we are, we pretty much know who we’ll be with. I think it helps us out in the long run. Battle is a new program; they started last year but didn’t participate in the postseason. I’m sure they have a nice talent pool of athletes to choose from.”
Opponents for Rolla’s regular-season schedule remains the same for 2014.
The Bulldogs will play in the St. Clair Jamboree on Aug. 15 and then open the campaign by hosting Lebanon on Aug. 22 at Lions Memorial Field. Three of the Bulldogs’ first four games will be at home.
All nine regular-season foes are against Ozark Conference competition, with the district first-round game following on Oct. 24.
