Bulldogs hold off Houston seventh-inning rally.
The Rolla High School baseball team came away with the victory, but the Houston Tigers came away with the Bulldogs’ respect.
Rolla had to hold off a fierce Houston seventh-inning rally to post a 11-9 non-conference victory Tuesday.
RHS improves to 6-2.
“We won but it wasn’t easy,” said RHS head coach Karl Odenwald. “Houston has a nice team.”
The Bulldogs held off Houston by scoring in every inning. RHS tallied three runs in each of the top of the first and second innings and then added solo runs in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh.
In the RHS first inning the Bulldogs had three hits, including RBI singles by Collin Nash and sophomore Sam Remillard.
Rolla plated three more in the second, as junior Andy Satulla singled to go with three walks and a Houston error.
In the third junior Dalton Turner doubled and scored on a RBI single from senior Bryan Peach. In the fourth Nash doubled, advanced on a passed ball, and scored on Remillard’s RBI groundout.
The Bulldogs got a run in the fifth when junior Jake Stephens doubled and scored on Peach’s RBI sacrifice. In the sixth Remillard walked, stole second base and later scored on a passed ball.
Rolla’s final run came in the seventh, as Satulla reached on an error and, after singles from Peach and senior Seth Stevens, scored on a passed ball.
Trailing 7-0, Houston scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and then added two more in the fourth to cut its deficit to 8-5.
The Tigers plated four more runs in the bottom of the seventh before finally being retired - two runs short of tying things up.
