  • RHS baseball whips Wright City, St. Clair on Saturday.

  • A sweep on Saturday allowed the Rolla High School baseball team to win its pool in the Four Rivers Tournament at the FCNB Field.
    Rolla shut out Wright City 11-0 and then blasted St. Clair 15-5 on Saturday to improve its overall record to 5-1.
    The RHS Bulldogs opened Ozark Conference play yesterday by hosting Lebanon. Rolla was scheduled to play again today at Houston in non-conference play, starting at 4:30 p.m.
    On Saturday:
    Rolla 11, Wright City 0
    The Bulldogs were too much for the Wright City Wildcats both on the mound and at the plate.
    Junior lefty Sean Etherton went the distance pitching for the Bulldogs, allowing just two hits.
    At the plate RHS contributed nine hits but also took advantage of six walks issued by Wright City pitching along with a pair of wild pitches and two errors.
    The Bulldogs bolted from the gate, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning and then added one in the second, four more in the third and two in the fourth.
    The game was stopped after five innings due to the run rule.
    Senior Seth Stevens was 3-for-3 with two runs scored for Rolla while sophomore Brett Hoffman was 2-for-3 with two runs scored; junior Dalton Turner had a double, single and run; junior Andy Satulla scored three runs with a single and RBI; junior Billy Brookshire two runs and a hit, and junior Cameron Clayton had two RBI.
    Rolla 15, St. Clair 5
    The St. Clair Bulldogs struck first, scoring three runs in the top of the opening inning. After RHS went scoreless in the bottom of the frame, St. Clair added a run in the second to take a 4-0 edge.
    However, it was all RHS the rest of the way. Rolla exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the second to lead the rest of the way. RHS added two runs in the third and five more in the fourth.
    The game was stopped after five on the run rule.
    Satulla was 2-for-4 with three RBI, three runs and two stolen bases, as Rolla outhit St. Clair 9-6.
    Also for RHS Hoffman belted a pair of doubles, including a bases-clearing blow in the second, and scored three runs; senior Bryan Peach had a double, single, two RBI and a stolen base; Brookshire had a hit, three runs and stolen base; Clayton had a double, and senior Matthew Claypool scored twice.
    Rolla also took advantage of four walks, three hit-batsmen and three St. Clair errors.
    Junior right-hander Mason Pickrell was the winning pitcher for Rolla in a distance-going effort.
