  • This Saturday will mark the third year for the AbbiCakes fundraiser that helps aid the Capable Kids and Family program at The Community Partnership.
AbbiCakes will take place this Saturday, March 29, at Kroger and Country Mart in Rolla from 9 a.m. to  2 p.m.
Capable Kids and Families is a program designed to support families who have a child with special needs. Program components include: weekly networking and play group meetings, an accessible playroom and an extensive therapy equipment loan program.
A resource library is also available to families and professionals. The program serves children up to age 12.
Abbicakes is named in honor of Abbigail Hoak, who was born with hydrocephalus, a condition that results in an excessive accumulation of fluid in the brain. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age 1.
The Capable Kids and Families program has been instrumental in helping Hoak's development over the past six years and has provided support to her family.
According to Kim Hoak, Abbi's mom, organizers of this event are planning on baking 1,500 to 1,700 cupcakes.
New this year is the opportunity to pre-order cupcakes. Their goal this year is to raise $1,500.
"The support has been incredible," Hoak said. "This year we are  grateful for an anonymous donor who will match the money we raise  up to $1,500."
